Hair care in winter

Winter is a time when hair needs more attention. Many people suffer from dry and itchy scalp in this season.

Nalina, a spa therapist says that in winter one should not wash hair on a daily basis. Wash your hair three times a week. An oil massage with a light oil will help. Massaging warm oil on to the scalp will help avoid dryness in the scalp. However, daily oiling should be avoided, she says. Vasundhara, a hair care specialist cautions that one should not expose their hair to chemical treatments in winter. “It is wise to avoid streaking, ironing and hair colouring in winter,” she says. She recommends the use of ‘leave-in-conditioners’ which will keep the scalp moist for a longer time.

Radhika, a spa therapist suggests dandruff treatment followed by a hair spa to keep the tresses in all its glory in the winter. She says, Opt for a hair spa with a purifying base. As oil has a tendency to aggravate scalp issues, use light oils or light cream based products to nourish the hair. Vasundhara recommends, Do trim your hair so that there are no split ends, otherwise the split may work its way to damage the hair shafts.

Sathya, a beautician says that one shouldn’t let their hair loose. She explains, “Exposing the hair to the cold winds in the evening and sunrays in the daytime will make it rough. Hence one should style their hair with a braid, twist or a knot.”

And, what about a scarf? “It is nice idea to cover hair with a silk scarf so that you look uber cool and stylish, concludes Sathya.
